Nar Phu Valley

This trek explores the isolated Nar and Phu valleys, which were only opened to tourism in 2002. This means you'll experience a less crowded and more authentic trekking experience. It is considered a challenging trek due to its remoteness, high altitude, and rugged terrain.

The trail winds through lush forests, narrow canyons, yak pastures, glaciers, and the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges.
The valleys are home to traditional Tibetan Buddhist villages with their unique culture.

The trek reaches altitudes of over 5,000 meters, crossing the Kang La Pass at 5,306m / 17,408ft.

Highlights

  • Remote and isolated villages: The Nar Phu Valley is truly off the beaten path. The villages of Nar and Phu have been relatively isolated for centuries, preserving a unique culture and way of life that has remained largely unchanged.

  • Authentic cultural immersion: This trek offers a rare opportunity to experience authentic Tibetan-influenced culture. The local people, primarily of Gurung and Lama descent, are incredibly warm and welcoming.

  • Rugged and untamed landscapes: The Nar Phu Valley is characterised by its rugged and dramatic landscapes, towering snow-capped peaks, deep gorges, and high mountain passes.

  • Kang La Pass: Crossing the Kang La Pass is a major highlight of the trek. This high pass offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak.

  • Less crowded trails: Unlike the popular Annapurna Circuit or Everest Base Camp treks, the Nar Phu Valley trek sees far fewer trekkers.

  • Challenging but rewarding: The trek is considered moderately challenging due to the high altitude and some steep ascents and descents.
